Nutrition that is usually not recommended on television. And meanwhile, it’s the most healthy. The humble broccoli. The proud trostomate. The bunch of spinach and the bag of brown rice.

There is no ‘healthy’ and ‘unhealthy’

Nutrition can not be classified in “healthy” or “unhealthy”. It is a continuum. With the most healthy food at the top of the ladder, and the least healthy food at the bottom of the ladder.

Top of the ladder you find raw leafy vegetables like spinach, arugula, purslane etc. Shortly thereafter are the various vegetables, legumes, fruits, whole grains, nuts, and seeds.

At the bottom of the ladder, you will find the least healthy products. Here you will find, for example, highly processed meat, such as crackers. And candy. And fried products.

And in between, you will find the rest.

The more you eat from the top of the ladder, the more you support your health. If you take a larger percentage of your diet from the bottom of the ladder, you will undermine your health.

At the top of the ladder, you reduce the chance of ailments. At the bottom of the ladder, you increase the chance of ailments.

There are no guarantees. For example, you can just get colon cancer if you eat many fibers in your life. But statistically, you are better off with many fibers. And that’s all you can do: improve your chances.

But good – how do you determine whether food is unprocessed?

How do you define raw food?

Okay – it’s really simple. An unrecognized feed can be recognized as follows:

  • It has transformed sunlight, water, and minerals from the bottom into food.
  • No good fabrics have been removed from the product.
  • There are no harmful substances in the product added.

If it meets these conditions then you can see it as unworked. A perfect example is a whole biological apple. Or a bio broccoli. Pure nature. As healthy as food comes.

A whole grain of grain is a raw product. When it is crushed to whole wheat flour, nothing is removed and nothing is added. It therefore still contains all the nutrients that were original.

When the shells are sewed out to refine it to flour, something will be removed. Namely the fibers and B vitamins that are in the shells. From here it becomes a processed product and drops it on the ladder. It has now become less healthy.

Do not try to do ‘perfect’

A lot of food does not comply with all guidelines because an operation is almost always done. For example, when you cut vegetables, nutrients are lost. That’s a pity, but it does not make this unhealthy diet.

Therefore, it is more convenient to keep the following definition in practice:

  • It has transformed sunlight, water, and minerals from the bottom into food.
  • There are few or no good substances from the product.
  • There are few or no harmful substances added to the product.

Raw vegetable nutrition often contains most nutrients. But not always. Certain foods become healthier when heated. It is therefore not necessary to eat only raw to benefit from raw food.

Often, raw food is a welcome addition. Simply because your body becomes so happy with the raw food.

Some vegetables lose some of their nutritional value when heated. That’s sin, but that does not make them ‘unhealthy’. If you are worried about this loss, you can just add a spoon extra. No problem.

You Can eat this In One Day

It’s not all that hard. This is a typical day for me to eat healthily. Not every day looks like this, but to give you an idea:

  • Have breakfast with oatmeal with red fruit, banana, linseed, pieces of walnut and oat milk. This is quite unprocessed. The oat milk is slightly more processed. But it’s a pleasure to eat the oat flakes and the fruit. So fine.
  • In between, You eat some fruit, such as an apple, an orange or a grapefruit. Or you can reward yourself with a banana with peanut butter. Bit crazy – very tasty.
  • You sometimes can eat a whole wheat vegan toast – Full of vegetables. Or with some baked vegetables and rice. A chickpeas omelet with mushrooms and spinach. Or with a salad with lentils. Or soup, or rice with vegetables. Or whole wheat rye crackers with hummus and vegetables. That kind of things.
  • In between, You can eat some fruit again – Or you can dip vegetables in homemade hummus. Or grab a cracker with peanut butter or hummus.
  • And for dinner,  eat a lot of vegetables, brown rice, some tofu and green curry sauce – The sauce is usually not made by itself but contains only spices and coconut milk, no mess. And sometimes we make the sauce ourselves. And eat so much until you are full. Of course, we do not eat this daily.
  • And, in the evening, you can enjoy some red fruit (from the freezer), a piece of pure chocolate (89% cocoa), a whole wheat cracker with hummus or healthy biscuits.

Simple. Pretty unprocessed, and delicious.

Healthy food is simple

Exactly. Just eat more unprocessed foods. Then you get healthier, lower your chances of illness, lose your excess fat and develop more energy.

And it may be less delicious than the stuffed cakes and fries from the snack bar. But you get some unwise goodies for back: a greater chance of a longer life with more lifelong happiness. That’s also worth it anyway, right?
